Shrawan/Saaun Month: A Special Time for Nepalese✨ The month of Shrawan (Saaun) holds a special place in the hearts of Nepalese Hindus. Here’s a glimpse of what makes this month so significant: - Traditional Attire: On the 1st of Saaun (Saaune Sangraati), Nepalese women adorn themselves with henna on their hands and wear vibrant bangles in green, yellow, and red. Their dresses(sari) often match these colors. 🌺💚💛❤️ - Sacred Mondays: This month is exceptional because it has five Mondays, unlike other months, which have just four. During this period, pilgrims dressed in yellow walk barefoot to Lord Shiva’s temple and rivers, chanting “Bol Bam.” 🕉️🚶‍♀️ - Fasting and Prayers: Women visit the Shiva temple on Mondays, praying for the health and long life of their husbands or, for unmarried women, for a prosperous future spouse. They observe a fast on these days. 🙏💫 - Dietary Restrictions: Throughout Saaun, people abstain from cooking and eating meat. 🌱🍲 - Kheer Khaane Din (15th Saaun): This day is celebrated with the traditional dish, kheer (rice pudding). It is considered pure and is often served as Pasaad (offering during Puja). 🍚🍯 - Festive Season Begins: Saaun marks the beginning of a vibrant festive season in Nepal. With many more festivals on the horizon, it’s a time of great celebration. 🎉🪔 - Don’t forget Asar Pandhra (15th Asar), when we enjoy Dahi Chiuraa!
