What's the difference between "haven" and "sanctuary" ?

They are similar, and often can be used interchangeably.
But "sanctuary" has additional meanings.
Sanctuary can also be a place where animals are protected, for example, like a "bird sanctuary."
Sanctuary can also be used to refer to a church, or part of a church.
