How often and when do you use these phrases? -"every dog has a day" -"to pay through the nose" -"to know which side one's bread is buttered"

I use "every dog has its day" quite a bit because I believe in karma. The other 2 aren't used that much in my part of Australia.

Every dog has its day- This is used when the odds are against you. When you use this phrase it would mean that, you will also have it your way.... sometime.... Pay through the nose- When something is overpriced.... And you know very well that its expensive, but still you need it very badly.... in that case, this phrase can be used to express that you paid up so much reluctantly... without wanting to pay...
