In ogni caso sarebbe anche corretto dire "che fai?" "cosa fai?" "che stai facendo?" anche se sono sicuramente forme più colloquiali

(what are your interests now ? job, etc.) a2) e adesso che fai {di bello, di nuovo} ? Suppose you meet somebody on the street: b1) che fai qui di bello ? In (a2) using /di nuovo/ you are referring to a change in life that you know about; saying /di bello/ is just 'wishful-thinking', so it is a nice way of asking; very common usage between good friends!
