What is the difference between "almost" and "pretty much"?
Is there some rule of use?

"Pretty much" is very informal. "Almost" is much better and suits all contexts, formal and informal.

Both mean the same thing. Example: I have almost finished reading this book/I have pretty much finished reading this book.
"Pretty much" is more common in spoken English.
