"last" or "last for" The Chinese New Year celebration usually lasts (or "lasts for" ?) 15 days. Is the "for" necessary ?

The celebration lasts 15 days. Here you may write "to last" without '"for". But in the next phrase you need to write "for", because here "for ever = forever" is an adverb. This winter seems to last for ever.

No, it is not necessary to have the "for."
