Does the word "papa" mean "father" in English?

Yes. Papa, pop, pa, paw, pappy, dad, daddy, "old man"... all mean father in America.

it means father but is almost never used. "Dad" is the more common adult term. Children may used daddy or papa. Adults may use an abbreviated form of papa, "pops." "Pops" can also be used to refer to an old man endearingly. "What's up pops?" would be said to an old man to ask him how he is doing or what is going on.
