"Drift off" or "Dift off to sleep
Is "to sleep" an option when you use this phrasal verb? With the meaning of "fall asleep" of course.
Example:
She was about to drift off (to sleep) when the storm kicked in.

yes.
In cases when the "to sleep" is not obvious, you must add this idea, somehow.
.
The party was winding down by 10PM. People began to drift off from then. (They went home)
