Meaning of "dort drüben"
I know "dort drüben" means over there. As in "Die Gurte straße ist dort drüben".
What is dort normally used for. Does it directly translate to "there". What other sentences could I use with dort which does not include drüben?

Dort = there...
...and is used in contrast to "hier".
"Dort" is mainly used to substitute for a place expression that has already been used.
Ist er in der Schule?
Ja, er ist dort.

dort drüben is equivalent to "over there"
A: Wo steckt mein Handy
B: Es liegt dort drüben auf dem Tisch
"Where's my cellphone"
"It's over there on the table"
