Carry the day is what mean? Daily life how to express? Today learned this phrase, do not understand the meaning of the teaching material. Opinions prevail mean or a day? “After being undefeated the entire season, our team was sure we'd win the bowling trophy. Our opponents proved us wrong. Coming from behind, they managed to score an extra strike and beat us. I can't get over how we failed to carry the day!” “When architect Maya Lin first proposed her design for the Vietnam War memorial, critics thought it wasn't traditional enough. They didn't think a granite wall that sloped into the ground was a proper tribute for those who lost their lives. Eventually her plan carried the day, going on become one of the most visited sites in Washington, D.C.”

Basically to "win the day", carry your team/side on to victory. I think it originaed in war, to win the day so you could carry on the next day.
