What's the difference between these adjectives? cheerful, cheery, glad, gladsome, jolly, jovial, joyful, joyous The dictionary only gives me one translation for all of them. As far as I know, not all of them are used for describing a person. Can I have some examples of their use with nouns, please?

They are all synonyms. Some examples: She is a cheerful woman. He waved me a cheery hello. He's a glad boy since he won the sporting trophy. In the old days, a pretty woman was also described as gladsome woman. Santa Claus looks like a jolly man. My brother is a jovial person, he likes to tell many jokes. It was a joyful night as we watched the fire works Christmas is described as a joyous time for all christians.
