It's a simple yet profound statement. It means that while she wished to do tasks that will be recognized by others to be great and noble, she must go about her everyday tasks as if they are great and noble things(and thus viewed by herself and others as great and noble). It means that there are no small tasks - she goes about giving a hug to a lonely person as if it were as important as curing cancer.

i think it simply means if you want to achieve something big, you have to begin with something little.

It means that one day she hopes to accomplish one great and noble task(one that commands respect and admiration). But her main focus is to approach every task (no matter how small) with the same care and diligence as if it were one great and noble task.
