What is a 'greater good'?
I heard this expression twice. Still don't know what exactly it means. Thank you for your help!

"The greater good" generally refers to the benefit of everyone (humanity), or a cause more than yourself.
For example if you say "he died for the greater good" it would mean that he died in support of a cause. Hope this helps :)

"For the greater good" would mean to do something in order to benefit everyone. I already heard, for example, "We have to pay taxes for the greater good of the society". Hope it helps.
