What are the differences between MOU(Memorandum of Understanding) and agreement/contract?

An MOU is less formal. It's an agreement which is written down/negotiated etc but you (probably) can't be sued if you break it in the way you can be if you break a contract. A contract is enforceable by law. An "agreement" is just something two or more parties agree they will do. It may or any not have a legal meaning. I am not a lawyer but that's my basic understanding.
