Is this sentence ok?
The traffic was halted because of fog / heavy rain / heavy snow / blizzard.

All of those are correct, except it should be "because of THE blizzard".
You should use "the" when talking about events, like a blizzard, a hurricane, a torrential downpour, etc. But for fog, rain, snow, ice, sleet, hail, thunderstorms, heat, etc, you don't use "the".
