veer away
Can I use "veer away, shift, change" interchangeably? For instance, if I want to say "she tried to veer away from the discussion"
Thank you very much,

They are similar, but not necessarily synonymous. Veering away implies an intent to avoid. Shifting and changing can be attempts to evade in some contexts, but they don't necessarily imply the same intent as veering away from a discussion topic.

It can be used in that context - "She tried to veer the conversation elsewhere" - Veer and Shift can be interchangeable (best) when referring to direction/movement - "She veered left" "She shifted left"
