One thing is for sure, they don't like posers (people who pretend to be people they're not). Just be yourself. Depending on where you live, your bound to gravitate towards students of your own race or background... It's just how high school's work.

Agree,  Just be yourself.
You will find people that will be willing to make friends with you very quickly.
Of course you will also have individuals who will be rude or who are ignorant, but I would not worry about that.  That is their problem not yours.
