"I'm getting on a bit for that." Do you usually use this phrase to mean "I'm a bit old for that."? Example sentences will be appreciated.

Yes, that's correct. "Getting on" means you are getting old. (Unless you are talking about "getting on" a bus or train, etc.)

'To be getting on' means to 'grow old' / 'to age'. Last week I realised that my neighbour is getting on a bit.
