Difference between 없어지다 and 사라지다?

Both are interchangeable, but "없어지다" is often used for "things", on the other hand, we usually say "사라지다" for persons.

I'd say both are the same.
우리 집 강아지가 없어졌다.
우리 집 강아지가 사라졌다.
