I would say that I have 4 classes today or 4 courses today. Someone might ask me what subjects I'm taking.

Si, es "subject". Entonces se dice, "I have four subjects today"
En el universidad, subject cambia por paper. "I'm taking seven papers this year, they're all part of my major."
