It depends on how you use it.
The word “过" means "to cross" when it used in the phrase 过河,过桥.etc
The single chinese can be used with another chinese,then form a new phrase.A little similar to the compound in English.
eg,过年,过节,=have the festival
过时=old-fashion 过来=come here 过去=come there
过程=the process (too many to lay out,you can buy a dictionary.)
If you use the single word “过”in daily life.
When you pass your exam,you can say"我过了”
Yeah,you also can use it to means time has passed, eg:过了明天=After tomorrow,过了四点=After 4 a'clock.
..........Perhaps you shoud write the whole phrase of 过,it is commonly used in life.But it has different meanings when used in different phrases.
我爱过你=I loved you,but not now.
