What's the difference between regulate and adjust? For example, I could say I will try to adjust myself to the new situation. Then is it wrong if I say I will try to regulate myself to the new rules?

Adjust is appropriate to use, for example, when you are in a new situation and you are learning how to act appropriately. Adapt would be a synonym. I don't think that 'regulate myself' would ever be used. This is more like enforcing rules habitually. For example: I regulate my sugar consumption. The import of exotic fruits are regulated in the United States.

It seems as if "Adjust" is used more for peoples actions. It is better if you say, "I will adjust myself to the new rules"
