i mean such dates as 1997 せん　く　ひゃく　くじゅう　なな　ねん？
how should I read 4, 7 and 9 in dates? 7 - なな or しち？
9 - く or きゅう？
4 - よん or し？
1947年　せん　く　ひゃく　しじゅう　なな？せん　く　ひゃく　よんじゅう　しち？

I am not a native speaker but I listen to Japanese radio from time to time ...

I always hear newscasters say "よん、なな、きゅう” for  dates, although I am sure that if you say し、しち、く the Japanese will understand you... :)

1997年 --> せん　きゅうひゃく　きゅうじゅう　なな　ねん
1947年ー＞せん　きゅうひゃく　よんじゅう　なな　ねん
