Most people in the UK appreciate it when you say "please" and "thank-you" in formal situations.
In universities, there are usually lots of clubs and societies where you can meet people who have similar interests e.g. sports, music, hobbies. So this could be a natural way to meet local students on a regular basis.
If you are invited for dinner, then take a bottle of wine or something nice like a box of chocolates. Nothing too expensive.
Most British people like Chinese food. We know mostly Cantonese food because most Chinese people who have moved to the UK over the years are from there. But we are open to all kinds of Chinese food. If you were able to cook or share Chinese food with British people, then this would be a great thing. You don't have to talk all the time when you're eating! Also we can learn a little about China in a natural way.
I guess there will probably be some "culture shock" in the early days. As you know, British and Chinese cultures are very different.
Good luck! Kind regards, Michael
