Thanks for the answer it makes sense. The only part I'm not sure I got is "einmal". Can you say " Schau einmal" instead of "schau mal"?

'mal' in that structure is just a filler. Can use also 'einmal' - or not use at all.

It's implies a modest importancy. Ich musste das mal sagen.
