That depends on your preferences. I learn 1000 most common words, which gives you 70% comprehension of daily language. I used "A Frequency Dictionary of Spanish", which is really balanced. I use the fluent-forever.com method of using anki. When learning words, always use example sentences and not isolated words. Immerse yourself as much as you can. Music is great for this, especially when combined with learning with texts, which you can install on a local server or use Benny Lewis' online version. I would hold off on tv until your B1 level, but up to you. Speaking early on is a great approach, but it's all preference. Benny speaks from day 1, I wait a month. DON'T BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES! This is critical. Start with simple beginner topics like personal information, the weather, etc... With grammar, get the most out of a little. For example, learning the present tense of -ar verbs allows you to conjugate all regular -ar verbs! Find patterns, especially for irregular verbs. Another example is that -er and -ir verbs are very similar throughout their conjugations. When you feel confident with one tense, begin another, but don't forget to review every now and then. As for pimsleur, I find they can be good for beginners, but what I do is start it immediately doing one lesson per day and then review when I'm around B1. This review makes a huge difference, at least for me. I hope that helps :)
