How do you say "were you alone?" to a male person?
I know that to a female person, it's "Вы были одна?".
Is it "Вы были один?"?

"Вы были один?" - correct!

Only Вы были один? (in a formal situation) or Ты был один? (informal) are correct when it comes to a male person.
Вы были одна? and Ты была одна? refer to a woman.
