question about grammar what's the difference between "have been", "had been", "have gone", "had gone" ? that really makes me confused.

Where's John? He's gone to the bank. This means that John is not here now. He left a while ago in order to go to the bank, and he hasn't come back yet. Are you ready for your trip? Yes, John's been to the bank to get us some foreign currency, and I've been to town to get us some sun lotion and things. Now we just need to pack. This means that John went to the bank earlier, got some currency and then returned home with the money. John's visit to the bank is over.
