En tus 2 ejemplos, el término no relaciona a una persona con un objeto (propiedad, posesión) sino a dos personas, por lo que en ese caso opino que se traduciría así:

1. a. Floyd Mayweather dominó a su oponente en su última pelea.
    b. Floyd Mayweather tuvo dominio sobre su oponente en su última pelea.
