Are both sentnces OK?
Economy is a lot better than it was five years ago.
You look a lot more beautiful than you did a few years ago.

You are almost right with both of these.
For the first one it would be better to say "The Economy is a lot better than it was five years ago".
For the second one it would be better to say "You look much more beautiful than you did a few years ago".
