engage / commit
I need to say
they engaged with each other
but I dont know if it means what I need: I promise I will do something and you promise to do it as well.

I think that you have two different meanings here. If you engage with someone, it means that you have a good rapport with them. Here I think that you are looking at a mutual agreement. Commit to one another is possible but it is often used in terms of a relationship.
Hope this helps

They made a commitment to each other to keep their promise.
