Expression: "All bets are off" Hey guys! Could you please tell me what is the implicit meaning of the expression "all bets are off". And could I say: "All bets are off for someone/something?" Many thanks in advance and happy holidays :) Cheers, Karine.

According to Urban Dictionary: " a situation in which one factor alone can change or cancel out everything" "The situation has drastically changed. Any guarantees, implications, or assumptions regarding its outcome no longer apply." http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=all+bets+are+off

It means 'anything can happen'. The outcome of something cannot be predicted.
