I advise reading a lot, specifically books. This is a great way to get a feel for how a language is used. e.g. what to be able to talk about a specific subject then read a book about that subject in the language. But beware of reading fanatasy books or historical fiction, they use a lot of outdated/made up words to make it feel exotic/ancient and as such are a bad reference to learn normal english from.
