To get cold feet? "To get cold feet" How do I interpret this phrase?

When one loses the courage to do follow through with an action, they got "cold feet". For example: A was going to join the military, but I got cold feet and decided to work at McDonalds instead.

To develop a wariness or lose enthusiasm for a course of action. Become hesitant to continue or a desire to back out.
