Could you explain the meaning of "On" in this sentence? Reading a book, I bumped into this sentence. "On a rainy afternoon she walked out of a doctor's appointment and hailed a cab on Central Park West in New York to get back to her office." In this sentence, what does "on" mean? 1. Does it mean that she took a taxi in Central Park West, the place where she got on a taxi is Central Park West? or 2. Does it mean that she took a taxi to Central Park West, where her company is located? I am sorry for my poor English. I hope that I could make my question understood. ^^

First, to be clear, you mean the SECOND "on": "hailed a cab on Central Park West" That means that she was on Central Park West (which is the name of a street) when she got the cab. Her company is not on Central Park West.

Yes, Ji Hun, the Americans say "on Madison Avenue", "on 55th Street", "on 55th and Fifth". The British say "in Bond Street", "in Brooke Street".
