Could you, please explain the meaning of the phrase multitude drools? I'm not sure how to understand the phrase "the multitude drools" from Jesus Christ Superstar musical. I can't decide if it means a lot of talking about it (drooling or spitting, which goes together with passionate speech), or maybe indicates high likeability (drooling, as one would for tasty food), or maybe something completely different. The context: No riots, no army, no fighting, no slogans Infantile sermons, the multitude drools Thank you

The 'multitude' is the masses - JC's adoring fans. In the previous verse they are referred to as 'a howling mob of blockheads' and in the following verse they are referred to as 'his half-witted fans'. The idea of 'drooling' continues the image of idiocy. Drooling is a basic physical reaction when faced with a stimulus that appeals. The suggestion is that his crowds of followers are stupid, even to the point of being mentally retarded, like a great herd of stupid animals.
