What did you do yesterday?
Hi! :)
Which is used more often where you live (as an answer to the question: "What did you do yesterday?"? Do they have different meanings or are used in different contexts?
1) I went visit my grandma.
2) I went to visit my grandma.
3) I went visiting my grandma.
4) Another way you would said this
Thanks a lot! :)* I found this website:
http://www.learnersdictionary.com/qa/i-go-visit-my-mother-or-i-go-visiting-my-mother
Do you agree with everything in this explanation?
What suprised me the most: "I went TO visit her" (I must use the TO here) while "I go (to) visit her on sundays" (The TO is optional here - mostly omitted). Do you use it the same way? *

Of the three options, only 'I went to visit my grandma' is possible.
The others are not correct.

#1 is grammatically incorrect.
#2 is correct.
#3 is technically correct but never used.
"I visited my grandma" or "I visited grandma" are also correct.
"I go to visit her on Sundays" is correct in many English-speaking countries including Australia and England.
"I visit her on Sundays" is better.
This means you often or usually visit her on Sundays.
"I went to visit my grandma" means you definitely did.
Don't forget that weekdays start with a capital letter in English.
"I go visit her on Sundays" is American English.

#2 is most commonly used. #1 is grammatically incorrect, but using a gerund, as in #3, is fine, just not in this example, since it doesn't sound natural compared to #2. For using a gerund, it would go as "We went mountaineering at Mount Bla."
