Do people in Japan use the English word "hello" with each other often?

Mostly among young people with Japanese pronunciation. 'Hi' is also be used the same way.
I do not know whether this is in fashion or not, I often heard that some people say 'What's?' in these days. That is also Japanese pronunciation though.
