Across the South American mountain range we do call it 'pasa-montañas' or gorro de lana but pasamontañas is undoubtedly our first choice.

Yeah, "gorro de lana" (wool hat) or simply "gorro" (hat), which is different from "sombrero" (also hat, but more like a formal or traditional hat)

We call it simply gorro. We can say "gorro de x" and x is the material of the beanie.
