mahilig vs gusto I've been using both of these to say I like something. Which is more common for this purpose? Mahilig akong kape. Gusto ko ng kape.

"Mahilig" is somewhat like a hobby if you'd say "Mahilig ako sa kape" it would mean you love drinking coffees. "Gusto" is for desiring if you would say "Gusto ko ng kape" it would only mean you would like to drink a coffee at that time.

gusto is more like you want it mahilig is more like you're fond of it gusto ko ng kape = i want coffee mahilig ako sa kape = i'm fond of coffee

'Mahilig' is typically used to refer to something that you enjoy doing. 'Gusto' is typically referred to as 'To want' As an example... "Mahilig ako mang-isda" = I enjoy going fishing (in the context of, I do it frequently) "Gusto ko mang-isda" = I want to go fishing (in an informal way : I want to fish)
