Are these ok? He spayed water on the roof and walls so that his house wouldn’t catch fire/be on fire I mean when there is a bush fire and he lived near it. Thanks

He sprayed water on the roof and the walls so that his house wouldn’t catch fire. There you go! "To spay" is a verb, but a different one.
