We rarely use Hanja. There're just some times when we are asked to write our name in Hanja, but a non-Korean won't be asked. I used Hanja like 男, 女, 大, 多 when I was doing note-taking in school. We used to see some Hanja a lot, so when we see it, it almost comes across as a symbol, I think. Korean learners don't need to learn Hanja. Study Kanji when you learn Japanese. Study Hanyu when you learn Chinese. :)

you don`t learn to hanja. don`t need in korean to speak and write but, if you know a little bit will help you. don`t worry

I don't speak much Korean, I have been studying Japanese for several years though, and I can tell you that Koreans only use kanji in specific ocasions and rarely, sometimes for calendars or charts. If you do not want to learn kanji, I would say that you would be just fine. Most Koreans that I have spoken to know very few kanji, some they can only recognize, but they have problems when they want to write them.
