болсоор
Could you please tell me what ‘болсоор’ means and what is the initial form of the word? I saw it in the following sentence:
Хүмүүс намайг загас гэж бодох болсоор яг жил болж байна.
I can guess that it means ‘It has been exactly one year since people had been thinking that I was a fish’ but maybe I am misunderstanding, and I’d like to know for sure.

Yes, you understood correctly. And you can use болсоор- getting better.
Дорж англи хэлэндээ улам сайн болсоор байна. Dorj is getting better in English.

болох - initial form of the verb which has a lot meanings depending on the context. For example.
Тэр том болжээ. He/She has grown up.
Орой болж байна. It's getting late.
Гадуу халуун болж байна. It's getting hot outside.
Тэр оюутан болоод 4 жил болчихсон байна. 4 years has passed since he/she became a student.
Хоол болчихлоо. The meal/food is ready.
Бид явах болсон байна. It's time to go.
