Hi, there
1) Should I omit "that" in "Some of the questions included phrases a Chicagoan would deem grammatically incorrect but (THAT) a Manitoban would think is perfectly acceptable English.
2) What about "These are words (THAT) a professor would think are inappropriate"?

Hello! For your first sentence, 'that' can be removed as it is a repeat of the word 'but' in meaning. For the second sentence, 'that' is used as it points to the subject of the sentence but it is not actually needed to link the sentence together.

The word "that' is basically redundant. It is understood. Not like in Spanish Ella le lee el libro a él, The word that is not necessary. It is not wrong either.
