당하다 grammar What is the right way to use 당하다 ? I know that 당하다 is used for the passive form, but I don't know if you can add it to verbs or nouns.

당하다 is typically used with a (usually hanja-based) noun that indicates an action. It can take the long from [N-을 당하다] or the short form [N-당하다] for the same noun. e.g. - 남편에게(서) 이혼(을) 당하다 (long) = 남편에게 이혼당하다 (short) = to be divorced from her husband. - 회사에서 해고(를) 당하다 = 회사에서 해고당하다 = to be fired by the company. - 차별(을) 당하다 = 차별당하다 = to be discriminated against. - 무시(를) 당하다 = 무시당하다 = to be slighted. (이혼 = divorce, 해고 = dismissal, termination, 차별 = discrimination, 무시 = slight, disparagement. 당하다 is sometimes used by itself without the noun, as in 이번에 그 친구한테 당했다 (I've been had by him this time), and it can also mean "to handle" or "to measure up to someone/something", as in 그는 아무도 당하지 못한다 (No one can hold their own against him).
