A stereotype Here's the definition of a stereotype: A relief printing plate cast in a mould made from composed type or an original plate. I can't make a sense of the definition, could you rephrase it for me, please?

Hi, I checked Longman dictionary, and this is what it says: (copied & pasted) Stereotype (N): a belief or idea of what a particular type of person or thing is like. Stereotypes are often unfair or untrue. * racial/sexual/cultural etc stereotype example: racist stereotypes in the media * stereotype of example: women who don't fit the stereotype of the good mother * stereotype about example: stereotypes about the elderly —stereotypical adjective: the stereotypical Californian - tall, fit, and tanned —stereotypically adverb Hope this helps.

Haha, that definition is not what people usually mean when they say stereotype. Usually, they mean a belief about a group of people that is usually derogatory and untrue.

Wow, gobsmacked. The stereotypical response, of "Oh, he means the normal meaning" is usually right. . Interesting specialist topic and language.
