Difference between 抱く and 抱きしめる I was looking for how to say "to hug" in Japanese and I found the word 抱く and 抱きしめる. 1. What's the difference between those words? 2. Which one should I use in case of a romantic hug to a loved person?

1. 抱く and 抱きしめる mean hold and hug. But 抱く means "have sex" too. 2. When you want to say hug, it's better to use 抱きしめる.

抱く is generally "hold". For objects and living things. "I'm holding the bag", "I'm holding the baby" for example. 抱きしめる is the same as "embrace" in English. It has more of a romantic nuance.
