1) 'Prossimo' usually comes before the name, but see 3) below.
2) In some expressions of time it can also come after the noun ("la settimana prossima"), in which case the article can be omitted ("settimana prossima") or, in other cases, must be omitted in the current usage ("lunedì prossimo").
3) When a complement depends on the adjective, according to a rule concerning the position of adjectives 'prossimo' comes after the noun. Here come a few examples.
3a) Un uomo, che pareva prossimo alla sessantina, entrò nel negozio.
3b) La sua psiche è prossima al collasso nervoso.
3c) Il fascismo era ormai prossimo alla sconfitta definitiva.
3d) La biglietteria automatica prossima all'uscita era l'unica in funzione. (here 'prossimo' refers to positions; this usage isn't common)
3e) Su una sgangherata cassetta della posta, prossima alla cancellata, si leggeva ancora il nome dei precedenti abitanti. (same note as in 3d)
