How to comprehend "bidden farewell"? By this season, the snow and ice have gone, and the cold of early spring had bidden farewell. In the above sentence, I do not understand what is the "bidden" meaning here. Please help me if you know, thank you in advance.

'bid' here means something like 'wish', or 'said'. It's a somewhat old-fashioned term. Bidden is perhaps an even older-fashioned form of bid. The simple idea is that 'the cold of spring had said goodbye'.
