Is there any difference between "for the past few year" and "over the past few years" ? I mean "for the past few yearS" Thanks in advance!

Some similar examples: 1 I have been in America for the last year. 2 I have been to America over the last year. 1 = I arrived in America at least a year ago, and am still there. 2 = I visited America one or more times during the year.
